All shoes made in China are not necessarily inferior. But the Timberlands are no longer what they were.
For about 2 decades this was my absolute favorite shoe. A pair lasted for a decade with intensive use (almost every day in the fall, winter and spring). They were the best combination of sturdy work shoe (without a steel rod), sportiness & dressier look. Although they were not completely waterproof, a regular treatment of the leather meant that my feet remained dry in the light rain or if I was caught off guard. The sole was quite thick and high enough on the floor that the water / sludge never infiltrated in. new timberland boots,The seemed were extremely well sewn and never once frayed, nor the carnations fall. Even the original leather laces lasted. While the sole wore some, especially on the outer edge of the heel (I was a heavy on pronator), the ridges in the sole never wore flat in a decade. I even carried them less than my old couples because of the problems.
In spite of Timberland's appreciation (they adapt better to my wider and particularly wider feet), I stopped buying Timberland because they shifted production out of the US (with a drop Sensitive quality) while maintaining their high prices.
